About us
Swim Maldives is an Non-governmental Organization (NGO) registered in the Maldives under Sports Act (30/2015), on 9th January 2019. Registration Number is 141-SC/CERT/2019/1.
Maldives is 99.7% water and only 0.3% land. Over the last 5 years, we had 12 children passing away in drowning incidents around water. We believe in Maldives, one child drowning is one too many. We want to change this. Our aim is to make Maldives a swimming nation. A nation whose children are comfortable and happy around water. As it used to be!
Our mission is to create a community of swimmers! Competitive, recreational or just occasional swimmers too. We welcome them all in our community and together, we will make Maldives a swimming nation.

Kurumba to Hulhumalé and back
Event date: 17th April 2018
An organized Open Water Swimming event where swimmers swam from Kurumba resort across to Hulhumale’ and back. Over 30 swimmers joined the swim. (total distance 3 km)

Kurumba to Malé
Event date: 15th December 2018
An organized Open Water Swimming event where swimmers swam from Kurumba resort to Male’. Over 30 swimmers covered this 5km swim and was greeted in Male’ by the Minister of Tourism and the Minister of Youth and Sports.
Baa Crawl 2019
Event date: 2-9th February 2019
A 7-day swim tour where 6 swimmers swam from Eydhafushi to Kendhoo in Baa Atoll. The swim covered a total of 43KM, hopping to 23 islands along the way. Water safety programs were conducted for children of 6 islands in the atoll. A 4-part documentary program series was aired by PSM (Public Service Media) that covered the tour. The event was organized with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Environment and the office of Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Dhiraagu Male’ Open Swimming Competition 2019
Event date: 12th October 2019
A 1 km swimming competition held in Rasfannu, Male’, sponsored by Dhiraagu. With over 200 participants, it was the first and the biggest Open Water Swimming event held in Maldives until 2019, for age groupers and the general public.
